Immigrants Are US: The (G)eneration Project presents "What's Your (G) Status? - Staten Island Edition on Thursday, August 19, 2021, from 7pm-8pm EDT on the (G) Project YouTube Channel (YouTube@GProject_org) and (G) Project Facebook (Facebook@GProject_org). Based on the tradition of oral storytelling passed on through generations, “What’s Your (G) Status?” - The Staten Island Edition, creates a welcome space for people to share their stories to get to know each other better.
RSVP for the 45-minute virtual roundtable event at gprojectstatenisland.eventbrite.com.
Cultural Advocate, Lorna Harris will host the conversation featuring fellow Staten Island residents and neighbors who each have contributed to the rich cultural and artistic identity of the borough, and whose work represents a diverse side of the community that may surprise many who only know of Staten Island as the forgotten borough. The special edition also challenges the misconceptions of what it means to be a Staten Islander.
Tom Ferrie, Co-Founder of Maker Park Radio; Victoria Munro, Executive Director of Alice Austen House; Darrell Smith, Drummer, Bandleader and Educator; and Sylvia D’Allesandro, Executive Director of the Sandy Ground Historical Society will delve deep into their immigrant heritage experience as they each learn their (G) status during the virtual hour-long discussion.
The (G)eneration Project is a public art campaign proposing that we are ALL Immigrants of different generations: G-0 born elsewhere, G-1 the first generation born here and so on, so that we may see each other, and each other in ourselves. The special Staten Island edition of “What Is Your (G) Status?” highlights the significant immigrant population of Staten Island that is critical to its shared identity and history.
